Our Low Carb Treasures Story began in 2011…

For us, this is not a diet...it is a way of life. We eat high fat, moderate protein, low carb because doing so has drastically improved our health, and we feel better eating this way. Because this is not temporary for us, we still wanted to eat delicious snacks, crackers, cereal, bread, desserts, etc. We did not want to feel deprived; we just wanted a healthy, satisfying version of these things.

In 2011, my son was researching primal diets and the effect of carbohydrates on the body. He told me that the body turns carbohydrates into sugar. I said, “No, that is simple carbohydrates not good, complex carbohydrates like whole grains that the government says we should consume in mass quantities”. That discussion changed my life. My son found the book “Protein Power” by Michael R. Eades, M.D. and Mary Dan Eades, M.D. in my bookshelf; it was sitting there unread for many years. I sat down and really read it this time. It was a whole new way of thinking. I really like the Eades' newer book "Protein Power Life Plan". Each chapter has a brief synopsis at the end; it is also a great reference book. My husband Mark lost 30 pounds in two months eating this way. His cholesterol has dramatically improved and my high blood pressure is now at a healthy level.

That is how our journey began. I have spent the last two years trying and developing many recipes to find delicious food that is also healthy. Some attempts have been more successful than others. Fortunately, my husband is so nice and will eat the less yummy attempts! The healthy low-carb, grain-free, ingredients that I am using are too expensive to waste. This is the reason that I am writing this Blog: to share the low-carb, grain-free treasures that make our way of eating so delicious and fulfilling. My hope is that this will save you time and money.
